Tip #8 - Be Thankful

In the spirit of the season it's appropriate that we pause and reflect on the blessings of this market. Blessings? Yes, I can think of several:

1. There is less pressure to discount our commissions. In this market sellers realize they need a professional and are willing to pay for our services.

2. The limited service providers (aka "no service") are on the run. There are fewer deals where we get paid for one side of the transaction but have to do the work on both sides.

3. The part-timers who skimmed off one or two deals a year are getting out of the business. That's good for consumers and for committed professionals.

4. Builders realize they need us and are again showing their appreciation with generous commissions.

5. There are still growth opportunities for those willing to learn new skills and explore new markets. The Brits are buying ("America is having a half-off sale!"). Foreclosures, short sales, auctions, affordable  housing, and green housing are all producing significant income for agents willing to learn the ropes.

6. Even in a correcting market, we are blessed with peace and abundance. Our worst market would be a dream come true for millions of people around the world. Life is good.

7. A financial jolt reminds us of what's really important. A top producing agent told me this week, "I don't have as much stuff as I did two years ago, and that's ok."

Yes, the market's tough right now. But that's not the whole story. A grateful spirit will help us keep things in perspective and allow us to enjoy the blessings of the season and the market.

Happy Thanksgiving!
